Merely Human?

A few years back a friend remarked to me after a particularly rough day “I feel human today.” I laughed and amusedly asked “Don’t you normally feel human?” She replied “No, usually I feel like a dragon!” I remember at the time feeling a bit confused and wondering what I normally feel like, what I would like to feel like and what it might be like if I felt different.

Pulling the Thread

I work a lot with people who have reached significant turning points in their lives. Some are at the point of making changes in their career to lead a more sustainable life, others have reached critical tolerance for old patterns and ways of living they no longer wish to engage, and others still have simply decided they need new goals, projects and perspectives. The common theme I’ve notice lately with both those I work with as well as others is seeing life as a tapestry.

Unsticking the Stuck: Traction Devices Required

Driving in the snow can also be a metaphor for life - to avoid getting stuck you need to maintain momentum, take the turns slowly and slow down with an appropriate amount of distance. When driving in the snow you need to remember all of these tips or you’re likely to get stuck.

Please Use the Handrails

Sometimes it becomes important to understand that what is right and real and true - is not what you’d like it to be. Resistance to new ideas, new ways of thinking, new ways of communicating, new ways of receiving can all be challenges that must simply be…overcome. Sometimes the universe just doesn’t give you a lot of options about it.

The Answer is “42.” The Question is “How Does the Rubber Band Fit In the Catapult?”

If you are a fan of Douglas Adams 1992 sci-fi/humor book and series “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” you’ll know that “The answer to life, the universe and everything” is 42. Of course, if 42 is the answer it becomes rather obvious that we don’t really understand the question in the first place. The search for the question is the premise of his series. Though intended as humorous and non-sensical entertainment, he posits a not-so-insignificant idea to consider - is it possible to know both the question and the answer at the same time?

Connecting Physical and Emotional Pain

The human body is an amazing piece of equipment which is intimately controlled by an even more amazing piece of equipment - our brain. Not so coincidentally this is where our emotions are formed as well. Is it so unreasonable a stretch to think that there might be a link between the two?

Powerfully Manifest Your Fullest Life Yet

The other day I wrote myself a love note. I was feeling a little down and I needed a pick-me-up. It was simple really, and it only took me about 10 minutes. I hardly thought about it either before or after I wrote it.

From Trauma to Empowerment

At first I just thought they were yelling at each other like they do so often. Then they got louder and then it started to sound like something was about to get dangerous. Growing increasingly annoyed and then concerned I finally looked out the window to see what my next-door neighbors were doing.

The Most Powerful Word - NO!

In our society the default answer to nearly every question is “Yes.” Advertising is all geared towards getting us to say “Yes - I need that.” We phrase our inquiries looking for yes: “Would you like more coffee?” “Would you be interested in joining me for dinner?” “Would you help me move next week?” Continue Reading »
